Consumer Reports Uses Price Per MPG to Compare Fuel Efficient Cars
Consumer Reports has developed a new metric to compare fuel-efficient cars by dividing the price of the car by the number of miles per gallon — Price / mpg. “If you want a car with great gas mileage and must make every dollar count, look for a vehicle with a low price per mpg,” according to an article on Infozine’s website commenting on the report.
As measured by price / mpg figure, some of the top cars include Honda Fit Sport with manual transmission which has a $464 per mpg based on a purchase price of $15,765 and overall 34 miles per gallon. The Toyota Prius costs $540 per mpg resulting from a purchase price of $23,780 and mpg of 44.
