This 1968 Shelby GT500 ($139,995) comes to iSeeCars from a pre-owned dealer in Solon, Ohio. Not only does it look great, but it’s in excellent condition and is a rare model. In fact, it was produced in 1968, a year when there were only 402 GT500 convertibles made. The color (sunlit gold over deluxe black vinyl) makes it even more unique.
For a car that is approaching 50, it actually had one owner for 30 years. And that owner cherished the car. The first owner picked it up in July 1968 and actually used it as his daily driver until 1989. It has 136,300 miles on it. He then used it as a weekend car. Not too long thereafter he decided to restore it. He obviously did a great job with the restoration as in 1993 it took home the prize for Best Restored Antique at the 1993 Boston World of Wheels show. It also earned silver (in class) at the 18th annual Shelby American Auto Club meet, an event he drove to in the actual car.
Not only did this owner care a great deal for the car, he also kept almost all documentation. For example, there is the build sheet, invoice, service records, and almost all of the SAAC dash plaques and member cards that he had. According to the dealer, there is even a Shelby autograph. It also comes with a Marti report.
This 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has a 428ci V8 Police Interceptor and an automatic transmission. The current dealer has done a significant amount of maintenance work on the car to get it in pristine condition.
