When it comes to wheels, the best cars for men are the ones with power, style and luxury. They don’t have to be high-performance sports cars (although what guy doesn’t love that), but they do need to have a lot of get-up-and-go. For this list of the Best Cars for Men, we’ve selected proven winners. All of them rank on one list or another, from MSN Top Picks of 2009, to Strategic Vision’s 2009 Total Value Awards, among others.
Here, then, are our top choices for Best Cars for Men:
- Infiniti G37 Coupe – MSN singles out the Coupe in the upscale sedan category of its “Top Picks of 2009,” saying it “provides sportiness and luxury in a very appealing package…lively powertrain, agile handling, a comfortable ride and a nicely appointed interior.” G37 gets its power from a beefed-up 328-hp 3.7-liter V-6 engine and 7-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, while all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional. U.S. News and World Report says the “V6 is refined in everyday driving, vicious when pushed…sharp cornering, even sharper with available four-wheel steering…sexy exterior.” Negatives include some hard interior plastics, small back seat and little storage space.
- Chevrolet Corvette Coupe/Convertible – Strategic Vision hails the Coupe as the continuing leader in the premium coupe class in its 2009 Total Value Awards. U.S. News and World Report says “Chevrolet Corvette combines the quick and sporty nature of high-priced exotics with the practicality and affordability of a daily driver – making it a great choice for anyone in the market for a sports car.” Edmunds says “For the money, you’re not going to get a better all-around sports car,” although it remains hard for some to get in and out of (somehow, this is not a problem for most guys). Standard horsepower is 430 in the base models.
- Strategic Vision 2009 Total Value Awards. Genesis won the 2009 North American Car of the Year Award and is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2009 Top Safety Pick. U.S. News and World Report says Genesis offers “luxury well beyond its price range, smooth comfortable ride, brisk acceleration with V6, blistering acceleration with V8, and long powertrain warranty.” Flaws, say Edmunds editors, include no AWD option, rear seat doesn’t fold down, still lacking a bit of brand cachet. – Inching up to snag former BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz owners, the Coupe wins the lead spot in the near luxury car segment of the
