When it comes to hauling people and cargo in style, you can’t beat the best full size pickup trucks. Priced generally between $15,000 and $35,000 (although you can get sticker shock if you opt for the top-of-the-line models), full size pickup trucks offer tremendous value and utility.
Here are our three top choices for Best Full Size Pickup Trucks:
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500 – Last redesigned in 2007, the full-size pickup has racked up a slew of awards over the years, including Motor Trend Car of the Year, Car and Driver’s “Best Pickup,” and Motor Week’s “Driver’s Choice.” Comfortable ride and handling, coupled with rugged and durable capabilities, the 2010 model comes with a staggering array of engines, trim levels, suspension configurations, bed lengths, and other options. Car and Driver says: “GM’s full-size pickup trucks together outsell the Ford F-series and they continue to be a class act in this highly competitive arena. Although they’ve been upstaged by newer trucks from Dodge and Ford, they still offer an outstanding engine choice and features galore.” Manufacturers suggested retail prices (MSRPs) start at $20,850 to $41,775.
- Ford F-150 – With desirable features such as SYNC infotainment system and plenty of in-cabin storage, the 2010 offers consumers a value-added package. With starting MSRPs from $21,820 to $43,355, the F-150 can get expensive fairly quickly. All-new in 2009, the F-150 won the North American Truck of the Year and Motor Trend Truck of the Year awards. Not much has changed in 2010 and F-150, like most full-size pickups, is available in regular, extended and crew cab configurations, short, regular and long beds, and 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive. Edmunds comments: “The 2010 Ford F-150 is an excellent all-around truck, though competitors offer a bit more grunt…All said, though, the F-150 is still one of the most appealing trucks on the market thanks to its user-friendly features and pleasant driving dynamics.” MSRPs start at $21,820 to $46,800.
- Dodge Ram 1500 – With available in-cabin storage cubbies, bins for storage built into the truck bed, and a coil-over suspension that some automotive reviewers say gives it the smoothest ride in its class, the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 offers value and variety for consumers in the market for the best full size pickup trucks. In addition, Ram 1500 boasts high-tech interior and useful exterior features. There are also three engine choices, though most reviewers recommend skipping the V6, and, properly equipped, Ram 1500 can tow up to 10,450 pounds. Consumer Guide remarks: “Ram earns high marks for ride comfort, creative storage options, and abundant available power. Impressive cabin trappings are a nice bonus that seal this truck as a Best Buy. Chevy, Ford, and Toyota loyalists would do well to have a look. You may well be won over.” Starting MSRPs range from $21,510 to $38,100.
