Buyers looking for more upscale features in their SUVs can perhaps find it informative to see the final tally of the best selling luxury SUVs in 2011. If it sells well, ranks in the top ten listing of SUVs sold during the calendar year, the chances are likely that the vehicles satisfy the broad and discerning interests of a certain segment of the population.
Here, then, is the list of the best selling luxury SUVs in 2011:
1. Lexus RX – First of the car-based luxury-utility vehicles, the Lexus RX crossover remains at the top of the sales chart of luxury SUVs in 2011. For December, the RX sold 11,508 units, while for the full 2011 calendar year, sales totaled 82,595.
2.– With seating for up to eight passengers, the 2011-2012 Buick Enclave large luxury SUV has hit a sweet note with customers, selling 5,555 units in December and a total of 58,392 for the full 2011 calendar year. That’s up 5.4 percent over year-ago levels.
3.– The midsize Cadillac SRX proves that luxury and performance go hand-in-hand. The SRX sold 7,324 units in December, and for the full 2011 calendar year totaled 56,905 sales. Although just 1,487 units shy of the Buick Enclave’s year-end sales numbers, the Cadillac SRX sales are still up 11.4 percent compared with the same period in 2010.
4.– Another midsize luxury SUV, the Acura MDX, with December sales of 4,558 and January through December 2011 sales of 43,271 sits in solid fourth place of best selling luxury SUVs in 2011. This is despite the fact that 2011 sales are off 8.6 percent year-over-year.
5.– The German automaker calls its SUVs by another name – sports activity vehicles or SAVs, but the proof is in the sales. The BMW X5 sold 6,007 units in December and finished out the year with sales of 40,547, up 13.3 percent compared to the same period in 2010.
6.– The first of three SUVs from Mercedes-Benz in the best selling luxury SUVs in 2011, the M-Class sold 5,313 units in December. For the full 2011 calendar year, the M-Class reported sales of 35,835, up 20.7 percent over year-ago levels.
7.– The second of the three ‘Benz SUVs in the list of 2011 best selling SUVs is the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, reporting December sales of 2,578 and full-year sales amounting to 25,139 units. That’s an increase of 26.1 percent over the same period in 2010.
8.– The only Audi in the list of best selling luxury SUVs in 2011 is the Audi Q5 compact SUV. For December, Audi Q5 sold 2,337 units, while full year sales amounted to 24,908 units, up 6 percent year-over-year.
9.– Lincoln, Ford’s upscale brand, reported 2,681 sales of the Lincoln MKX in December, while for the year, the total was 23,395. That total is up 6.7 percent over year-ago levels.
10.– The third SUV from Mercedes-Benz in the best selling luxury SUVs in 2011 is the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class. During the month of December, the GLK-Class sold 2,346 units. For the full 2011 calendar year, the GLK-Class sold a total of 24,310, up 16.1 percent compared to the same period in 2010.
