Dealers were also hot on the trail of the new Shaker, snapping up all 2,000 orders in a period of just four days.
What’s so special about the Challenger R/T Shaker? Here’s a brief look.
Nothing says hot like a performance car with a limited production run. About those 2,000 orders? That’s the entire model year production of the 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker. How’s that for exclusive?
Enthusiasts are enamored of heritage, particularly for cars that once commanded attention for their performance lineage. The original Challenger R/T with Shaker hood bowed in 1970. With the return of the legendary Shaker model in 2014 guise, today’s muscle-car aficionados are getting what they yearn for.
First, there’s the unique Shaker hood, unmistakable in its eye-catching design. The Shaker also boasts other muscle-car cues that make it instantly recognizable as a performance car.
Second, under the unique hood lurks the also legendary 4.7-liter HEMI V8 engine paired with a track-proven Tremec six-speed manual transmission that packs all the power necessary to propel the Shaker down the road in a blur. The hood and intake design combine with a functional exposed-element Mopar cold-air intake system to cool the engine and help manage the performance, resulting in over 400 pound-feet of torque.
There’s even an under-hood “Shaker” badge to delight Shaker owners.
Of course, to be true to original form, yet different, the Challenger R/T Shaker model also receives a Shaker-style Satin Black hood, roof and deck-lid stripe graphics. There’s also a decklid spoiler for added downforce.
All-new 20-inch polished-face aluminum wheels with black pockets and satin-matte clear coat includes feature a sculptured five-spoke design. Shaker badges appear on both sides of the hood scoop, while HEMI fender badges and a Challenger grille bade complete the exterior look.
Get into the Shaker and you’re greeted with a three-spoke flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel with black accent finish and integrated vehicle controls. There’s also a Shaker numbered dash plaque. Front seats are high performance with aggressive bolsters in premium Nappa leather (with either Dark Slate Gray with Sepia accent stitching, or Radar Red with Radar Red stitching) with the Shaker logo embroidered on the seat back.
The center console armrest is also leather wrapped and comes complete with an accent thread finish. Customers (who are lucky enough to snag one of these Shaker models) who prefer the optional performance-tuned five-speed automatic get a black leather-wrapped shift knob and die-cast paddle shifters.
Go for the available 6.5-inch Uconnect touchscreen and it lights up on push-button start to display the Shaker logo.
Now, the only question is who are the lucky 2,000 customers who are going to drive away from the dealership in one of these 2014 Dodge Challenger R/T Shaker models? If you’re interested, be prepared to pay for the privilege, depending on how many other enthusiasts are in line ahead of you.
